Matthew Wright joins the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board with broad experience of the transport industry, including 15 years working with an operator’s rolling stock department.
Previously employed as the Reliability, Engineering and Competence Manager at
Sheffield Supertram, he was responsible for leading fleet reliability improvements as well as managing the engineering Competence Management System (CMS).

“In addition to supporting the sector in meeting statutory requirements for standards adoption, he will also be helping the LRSSB develop research strategies exploring new technologies and innovative safety processes to further drive down the risk of accidents and other serious incidents.”
On taking up his new role this month, Matthew said: “I’m really looking forward to a new challenge at an exciting time for the sector.
“From AI to obstacle avoidance systems, a host of new technologies have the potential to revolutionise the way networks reduce risks, and we aim to ensure light rail in the UK remains a global leader in tramway safety and innovation.”
