The latest edition of a popular podcast is highlighting the increasingly important role of an independent organisation enabling light rail employees to report their safety concerns without fear of repercussions.
Now available to download, episode 8 of ‘Let’s Talk Light Rail’ from the LRSSB features Sue Gray, Marketing Lead and Stakeholder Manager at CIRAS, who outlines the history of the confidential hotline for the transport industry and the scope of its current work.
Â
In conversation with Carly Swift, LRSSB Marketing and Communications Manager, she also explains that the approach taken by the organisation enables employers to focus on issues rather than individuals. As a result, employees have the peace of mind knowing they can report any health, safety, or welfare concerns without worrying that they or anyone else will be singled out for their actions or labelled as a troublemaker.
Â
Sue and Carly are joined on the sofa at the LRSSB headquarters in Birmingham by Craig O’Brien, Head of Engineering Safety and Innovation at the LRSSB, who sets out how the two organisations are building an ever-closer working relationship.
Â
Together, they are analysing data from a sector-wide risk model to see if some safety concerns are under-reported, and how a willingness to speak up can be embedded in light rail culture.
Â
The importance of appropriate listening skills is also discussed, as are the many channels now available for sector colleagues to report potential safety risks, and you can listen to the podcast in full here.
