A bold national campaign that’s enhancing pedestrian safety around UK tramways has been shortlisted for a high-profile award.
Led by the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board, the initiative is based on pioneering research that identified where operators could focus their efforts on reducing the risk of collisions with people crossing tram lines.
Already adopted by a number of UK systems, the campaign has also caught the attention of judges at the Global Light Rail Awards, where the LRSSB is among the front runners in the Significant Safety Initiative category.
The organisation responsible for driving light rail safety is also in line for a Technical Innovation award for its work on digitising its extensive portfolio of products and services, including the launch of an online Safety Hub and further enhancements to its upgraded accident and incident reporting system.
Carl Williams, LRSSB Chief Executive, explained: “The past year has seen our organisation deliver on a wide range of initiatives that have been welcomed across the sector.
“We’re delighted these efforts are being recognised by award judges, and to be shortlisted in two very competitive categories reflects the hard work and professionalism of the entire LRSSB team.”
The winners of the Global Light Rail Awards will be announced at a gala event in London on Wednesday, October 2, and further information can be found here.
