The evolution of tram simulators and their contribution to light rail safety is explored in the latest podcast from the LRSSB.

In conversation with the organisation’s Chief Executive, Carl Williams, a leading expert in the technology explains how the latest desktop systems deliver multiple benefits over larger full-sized cab simulators.

Ian Rowe also highlights how they have played a vital role in familiarising drivers with routes ahead of the opening of new lines, as well as being used for ongoing training and development by recreating potentially hazardous incidents in a safe environment.

Recorded at the Milton Keynes headquarters of Avansim, which has designed and supplied simulator systems to tram networks across the UK and overseas, they also talk about how the technology is also being used to recreate control room environments and its potential for enhancing safety for track workers.

The importance of AI in the development of the latest generation of simulators, their role in developing new safety standards, and the potential for future applications is also discussed in the podcast, which can be viewed here.
