The light rail sector’s safety body has strengthened ties with the British Standards Institute (BSI).

Through closer collaboration and active participation in the BSI’s Railway Applications Committees and various working groups, the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board aims to boost sector engagement.

Matthew Wright, Standards Manager at the LRSSB, explained: “Our ongoing partnership with the BSI is increasing the sector’s presence and influence in the development of future standards that may have an impact on light rail.

“By ramping up sector participation, we can ensure operators and other stakeholders are better represented and informed. By improving visibility of emerging standards and alterations, we can also reduce the risk of the sector being unaware of any changes, while supporting more proactive, coordinated responses.”

The LRSSB is now present on all the relevant BSI committees and currently engaged with more than 10 EN/ISO working groups and is looking to further involve its stakeholders to ensure representation across all relevant groups.

“We are currently reaching out to colleagues in the sector with the required expertise to work with us as part of these vital activities,” Matthew added.
