New inspectors responsible for investigating accidents on UK railways have been given an in-depth insight into the work of the organisation responsible for tramway safety.
As part of their induction, six inspectors from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch were invited to the Birmingham headquarters of the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board to learn about the crucial role it plays in reducing risks for tramway employees, customers and other road users.
Accompanied by Principal Inspector Simon Lomax, they were briefed on the evolution of the LRSSB since its formation in 2018 and the benefits it has already delivered.
Mark Ashmore, LRSSB Head of Safety and Assurance, explained: “During the briefing we were also able to highlight the importance of our Safety Risk Management Framework, which embraces a host of interconnected platforms.
“These include our Tram Accident and Incident Reporting (TAIR) system, Safety risk modelling, Bowtie risk assessments and Rm3 assessment tool.
“The presentation was very well received by the inspectors, and the training session reflects the further strengthening of links between the LRSSB, regulators and our other key stakeholders.”
