A landmark project led by the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board is on track for a prestigious industry award.
In partnership with tramway operators, academics and a private company, Efficiency Ups Ltd, the initiative is testing pioneering technology that will use track vibrations to alert pedestrians of approaching trams at crossings.
Following initial trials in Sheffield, the ‘Vibesafe’ project has now been shortlisted in the Best Collaboration of the Year category at the National Transport Awards.
Craig O’Brien, Head of Engineering Safety and Innovation at the LRSSB, explained: “As testing continues on other UK networks, we are delighted to see the project recognised by the wider transport sector.
“It offers an example of how the LRSSB is working with a wide range of stakeholders to explore innovative technology with the potential to address one of the most significant tramway safety risks.”
The NTAs are organised by Transport Times, and the winners are due to be announced during an event at the Westminster Park Plaza in London on October 1, and further details can be found here.
